Access to Care services are the first contact with the Department of Adult and Family Services to present the problem or need for treatment. Assessments are made by telephone, face-to-face office visits, walk-in, or appointment. Screening is conducted by qualified mental health and substance abuse professionals to determine eligibility and level of care. Referrals are then made to appropriate services within the Adult & Family Department and community.
Community Integration services are special-project funded cases from State mental health facilities. Community integration staff provide liaison services and discharge planning to consumers in State hospitals for the entire catchment area. Funding is approved by the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services to support long-term residents of State hospitals to live in their communities with supports.
Crisis Services are designed to meet the 24-hour need for temporary detention orders (TDO) and evaluation for pre-admission screening for inpatient psychiatric care. Staff respond to the Lynchburg General Hospital Emergency Room, Bedford Memorial Hospital, Virginia Baptist Hospital, and all adult homes within 30 minutes for consumers being held on an emergency custody order (ECO). Follow-up crisis intervention services are provided by referral and include an assessment.
Mental Health Support services are provided in addition to targeted case management services. Mental Health Support Services staff assist consumers to live independently with training and assistance to complete tasks such as cooking and meal planning, learning how to use public transportation, understanding how to budget and manage finances, and education regarding one's medication and the benefits to reduce symptoms.
PACT services are intensive mental health services provided to individuals who have been treated in State facilities and typically require in-home rather than office-based treatment. Services are available 24-hours per day.
Psychosocial Rehabilitation services are provided in a clubhouse or similar setting using a wellness model for those adults living with the challenges of recurrent symptoms of mental illness. Adults in these programs are encouraged to join vocational programs and return to gainful employment.
Day Support services are a combination of individual and group activities for support, training, and supervision primarily to individuals with a diagnosis or assessment of mental retardation. The goal is to assist the consumer with supports to achieve maximum potential while living in the residence of his or her choice.
Forensic Services are provided to persons ruled not guilty by reason of Insanity (NGRI). We write conditional release plans, coordinate community passes prior to release, arrange community release, monitor acquitees functioning while released in the community, and report to the courts and the State on a monthly basis.
PATH services include outreach, screening and diagnostic treatment services, habilitation and rehabilitation services, case management services, community mental health services, alcohol or drug treatment services, and referrals for primary health services, job training, and education services.
Access to Care services are provided for all adults in the catchment area presenting for services or requesting emergency services.

PACT services are provided for adults 18 or over who have had at least one psychiatric admission, have a need for intensive level case management, have the ability to pay for the service by third party or self pay, and a willingness to accept the service. Individuals must also meet the criteria for rehabilitative services.
Psychosocial Rehabilitation services are provided for adults who meet the Medicaid definition of mental illness, 18 years or older, consumers open to the CSB for services, interested in attending the program for participation in various clubhouse units.
Day Support services are provided for consumers who have met Medicaid criteria for waiver services, or have a diagnosis of mental retardation and are willing to accept services to increase their ability to live successfully in their residence of choice.
Forensic Services are provided to those individuals who are found not guilty by reason of insanity.
PATH services are provided to individuals with serious mental illnesses, as well as individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders, who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
